Using Microsoft Teams as the phone system for calling, means that all voice over IP traffic is secured using TLS between the client and server no matter where you are connecting from. Many VoIP platforms do not secure voice traffic by default when working remotely.

While it’s recommended to have a Microsoft Business Subscription as a foundation for Teams Phone, it’s not mandatory for using the calling-only features. Microsoft 365 E5 customers do not require Teams Phone Standard licenses as calling is included in your E5 subscripton. Additionally, we suggest considering Microsoft Teams Premium and Copilot licenses to ensure an exceptional calling experience.
